Getty Images Full Story Google Poised to Unveil Android One Phones in India At Google I/O in June, Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice President for Android , unveiled the initiative to augment Android’s reach in the entry-level market. Android One, as it is called, is a platform that allows device manufacturers to create low-cost phones running stock Android OS. Google did the same for the mid-range market with the Nexus line, as well as the Google Play editions for high-end devices and Android Wear for wearables. Today, Google is expected to unveil its first line of phones running Android One in India . According to NDTV , Google has already partnered with Micromax, Karbonn, and Spice for a series of low-end phones. All three companies have already confirmed the partnership on Facebook earlier today. India is the right market to target. The country is the second largest telecom market and the fourth largest market for smartphones , according to the Wall Street Journal . Interestingly, a listing on Flipkart has revealed Spice’s Android One phone.
